The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra is affiliated to the Hesse Broadcasting Company (Hessischer Rundfunk) and carried the name "Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt" from 11 July 1971 until 2005, when it was renamed to hr-Sinfonieorchester. Before 1971 it was called [a617406].

It was founded in 1929 as "Frankfurter Rundfunk-Symphonie-Orchester" with Hans Rosbaud as its first principal conductor.
