Preacher Boy

Blues singer and multi-instrumentalist, born in Iowa City in 1968, but lived in Michigan, Kansas, Italy, and Washington before moving to San Francisco. In his teens Watkins became fascinated with the styles of classic country blues players like Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Bukka White, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, and Mance Lipscomb. Preacher Boy has been both honoring and redefining the country blues tradition through his darkly poetic lyrics, the unmistakable sound of his National Resophonic slide guitar work, and the raw urgency of his ragged baritone voice.
