British classical trumpet player and educator. Born March 12, 1928 in Bath, Somerset, England - Died January 17, 2000.
He founded the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble in 1951 which played either as a ten-piece orchestra for larger halls or as a quintet Philip Jones Brass Quintet and was Principal Trumpet for six different London orchestras during his career (Orchestra Of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (1951-1955), [a153980] (1956-1959), Philharmonia Orchestra (1960-1963), London Philharmonic Orchestra (1964-1965), New Philharmonia Orchestra (1965-1966), BBC Symphony Orchestra (1967-1971)). He was Director of the School of Wind and Percussion at the Royal Northern College Of Music in Manchester (1975-1977) and held the same post from 1983-1988 at The Guildhall School Of Music & Drama in London. In 1988 he was appointed Principal of Trinity College Of Music where he remained until 1994.
He was awarded an Order of the British Empire in 1977 and the Commander of the Order of British Empire in 1986.
