For a short time he had a friendship with writer D. H. Lawrence . Influence by the Dutch composer Bernard Van Dieren (1887-1936).
Heseltine had a great interest in folk songs and music from the time of Elizabeth I, which can be heard in his "Capriol suite". He also studied Celtic culture and language. Under his own name he published many articles about the implementation of "old" music.
