Canadian jazz guitarist and composer, born 19 August 1944 in Ottawa, Canada, though long based in New York City. Peter Leitch recorded frequently as a leader for several labels, primarily Concord Jazz, Jazz House and Reservoir. In his guitar playing career he has worked / recorded with some of his profession's greatest performers like Oscar Peterson, Ron Carter, Milt Jackson, Woody Shaw, Pepper Adams, Jaki Byard, [a=Jack McDuff], Kenny Wheeler, Al Grey, and John Hicks, among others. He is no longer playing due to side effects from radiation and chemotherapy, though he is leading a 12 piece orchestra playing his originals and arrangements, which premiered its debut performance on November 30, 2018 in New York City. He died on December 30, 2024.
