Sweden's most internationally known double bassist; born 15 October 1946 in Bromma, died 18 May 2024 in Åkers styckebruk, Södermanlands län.
At the same time as studying violin at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (1962–1966), he quickly became involved in Stockholm's jazz environment at, among other places, the club Gyllene Cirkeln. He played with Bill Evans (1965), toured with Eje Thelin, trombone, Billy Brooks, drums, and Barney Wilen, saxophone. Together with Lennart Åberg, saxophone, Bobo Stenson, piano, and Bengt Berger, drums, he formed the group Rena Rama, who released their first album in 1973.
Later he was in Keith Jarrett's "European Quartet", with saxophonist Charles Lloyds Quartet (Fish Out of Water, 1990), and on editions with Jan Garbarek, Bobo Stenson Quartet and Tomasz Stańko Septet. Danielsson was also a regular member of Michel Petrucciani's band, as well as touring in a trio with John Taylor and Peter Erskine.
Danielsson's own album "Contra Post" was released in 1995. With Ulf Adåker, Joakim Milder, Bobo Stenson and Jonas Holgersson, he released "Monk by five" (2000).
He now leads his own quartet, consisting of Joakim Milder, saxophone, Rita Marcotulli, piano, and Anders Kjellberg, drums. Occasionally, Dejan Terzic has also been included.
He is the brother of keyboards player Monica Dominique.
