Influential figure for 60s American popular music and considered a seminal artist of Soul and R&B.
In 1965, he co-founded the piublishing entity Redwal.
Of his compositions, best known are the hits Respect and (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay.
Inducted to Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 (Performer) and Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994.
