Kvernberg was awarded the Spellemannspris in the category Jazz in 2011 for his album "Liarbird". He was also awarded the Amandaprisen for his soundtrack to the movie "Jag Etter Vind" (2003). His soundtrack to the documentary "Only The Devil Lives Without Hope" won him a Guldbaggen award in 2021.
