New Ethic

About

New Ethic is the band that came before I Have Dreams and A New Kind Of American Saint, with some of the same members. They were from Tallahassee, Florida, created from the ashes of other local bands such as Ten Fold, Buster Douglas, Banshee and the amazing KlondyKes. New Ethic was active in 1998, self-releasing the three-track "Summer Demo '98" on cassette. The cassette was packaged with a single-page cassette sleeve, a kinko'd hand drawn lyric sheet, all inside of a brown paper bag, each with a different "New Ethic" message, such as "New Ethic is a sin" and other sundry, nonsensical phrases.

New Ethic was an up-an-coming band, beginning to tour, playing with national acts and sparking nationwide attention, writing progressively better songs and garnering a strong regional fan base when tragedy struck: as the band was on their way to play an out-of-town show, a car crash claimed the life of one of the band members.

Though it's always difficult to capture the true meaning and talent of a band through tape and word, perhaps a glimpse of New Ethic's prowess and ideals shines through.
