The first was recorded by Bill Russell in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1949 and consisted of violinist [a= James Fields (4)], mandolin and banjo player [a=Lee Warren (5)], guitarist [a=Paul Johnson (74)], violinist [a=Charles Jones (18)], and bassist [a=Wesley Williams (3)]. The second was recorded by Sam Charters in Mobile, Alabama, in 1954 and consisted of guitarist [a=Ollie Crenshaw], guitarist [a=Moochie Reeves], tub bassist [a=Tyler Jackson], and an unidentified jug player.
