American traditional pop vocalist, heard often on radio during the 1940s to late 1950s.
Born July 16, 1927 in New York City, New York, USA.
In 1946, while still in her teens, Carson won an audition to the radio program Stairway to the Stars. This gave her a chance to perform for eight months in 1947 with Paul Whiteman's band and singer Martha Tilton, stars of the program. She joined the singing bandleader Harry Cool that year and made a number of recordings with him, one of which, "Rumours Are Flying", made the charts at #12 in 1946.
She was an occasional duet partner with Guy Mitchell and a solo artist in her own right. They charted with "('Cause I Love You) That's A-Why" in 1952, the song rising to #26. As as solo artist she charted eight times between 1950 and 1956, with "My Foolish Heart" in 1950 hitting #6. In August 1955, she scored a hit when her recording of "Wake the Town and Tell the People" reached #13, despite the fact that the trends in popular music were moving to rock & roll and she was not a rock singer.
She had her own variety show on the CBS Network in 1949. In 1952, she launched the Mindy Carson Show. By 1960 she had finished her recording career.
