Mattia Battistini

Mattia Battistini was a Italian operatic baritone, 27 February 1856 Rome – 7 November 1928 Rieti.. He studied under Venceslao Persichini, who also taught Francesco Marconi, Titta Ruffo and Giuseppe de Luca. Debut in 1878. Sang and toured throughout Italy, from 1881 a more than one-year tour of South America. In 1883, he sang at Covent Garden alongside Adelina Patti. In 1905-1906, he sang there again, with great success. From 1892, he sang for 23 seasons in Russia, notably in Warsaw, Moscow, St Petersburg and Odessa, until the Russian revolution in 1917. He then founded his own company with which he sang in Western Europe. Finally, after about 49 years, he sang his last concert in 1927, aged almost 72. He recorded about 114 released titles from 1902 to 1924.
