Masahiro Miwa was born in Tokyo in 1958, and formed a rock band in highschool in 1974. In 1978 he moved to Germany to attend the National Academy of Art in Berlin, where he studied composition. Since 1985 he has studied at the Robert Schumann National Academy in Düsseldorf. He has been teaching computer- and electronic music at the Academy since 1988. In 1986 Miwa began to teach himself computer programming, and has since focused on creating computer music.
