    Marvin Schlachter

Record label executive from New York.

Born: November 25, 1933 in New York City, New York.
Died: September 19, 2024, in New York City, New York.
Schlachter's first role in the music industry was as an ad executive for the music industry magazine Cash Box in the late 1950s.
From there, following a meeting with Florence Greenberg, he was appointed executive vice president at Scepter Records / Scepter Records in 1961.
After nine years, he left Scepter to become president of Scepter Records, the newly-opened US division of the British record organization Scepter Records.
After a reorganization, he took over a portfolio of labels under Pye's successor, Scepter Records, including Scepter Records.
In 1976, when Pye closed its American operations, he took some of his recently signed artists and launched Scepter Records, named after one of the more successful Pye acts (Prelude).
Prelude was established to promote the new disco sound and became a hugely influential label due to the stable of producers he brought to the label, notably Patrick Adams and François Kevorkian.
Schlachter ran Prelude until 1986, then co-founded MicMac with DJ Mickey Garcia in 1987.
    Married to Trudy Schlachter.
