The Marine Chamber Orchestra, associated with the U.S. Marine Band (also known as “The President’s Own”), has a rich history and plays a crucial role in providing music for various events at the White House. in 1955 a dedicated chamber orchestra was established. his new model allowed for greater flexibility within the tight quarters of the Executive Mansion (the White House), a tradition that continues to the present day. Whether performing for State Dinners, national events, ceremonies, or receptions, the Marine Chamber Orchestra musicians appear at the White House approximately 200 times each year. Their performances range from small ensembles (such as solo harp or string quartets) to events featuring the full chamber orchestra. Versatility is a key requirement for orchestra members. Today’s Marine Chamber Orchestra musicians come from some of the nation’s most prestigious universities and conservatories. They undergo rigorous auditions similar to those of major symphony orchestras. These talented musicians enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps for permanent duty with “The President’s Own.”
