American singer of popular music and country music who first made her reputation during the 1940's and 1950's.

Born July 22, 1924, Detroit, Michigan, USA.
Died January 10, 2011, Englewood, New Jersey, USA.
Daughter of songwriter Richard Whiting, sister of Barbara Whiting, aunt of Richard Whiting Smith & niece of singer Margaret Young.
Whiting co-starred on NBC Radio's "The Bob Hope Show" (1953-55). She co-starred in the TV show "Those Whiting Girls" with her sister Barbara (1955-57).
She charted thirty-four times (1946-70) in the U.S. including #1 song "A Tree in the Meadow" and #2's "Far Away Places" & "Now Is the Hour (Maori Farewell Song)", all in 1948, She had eight top 10 singles including hitting #1 on the adult contemporary chart in 1966 with "The Wheel of Hurt" (#26 overall).
