M. R. James

M. R. James (1862–1936) was an English author and medievalist scholar, best remembered for his ghost stories, collected in "Ghost Stories of an Antiquary" and other volumes. As a scholar, he discovered a manuscript fragment which resulted in excavations in the ruins of the abbey at Bury St Edmunds, West Suffolk, in 1902, leading to the discovery of the graves of several twelfth-century abbots. He also translated the New Testament apocrypha.
