American guitarist and singer and major figure in the history of of Tejano music. Born 21 May 1916 in Houston, Texas, USA and died 20 December 2007 in San Antonio, Texas. Began her career with her family's group [a3674565]. In 1982, she became the first Texan to receive the National Heritage Fellowship lifetime achievement award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
