“The Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble was formed in New Orleans in 1980... Its members are professional musicians dedicated to creating uncompromisingly authentic performances of classic New Orleans jazz of the decades before 1930. The LRJE has played in every part of the United States, and gave the Doubleday Lecture at the Smithsonian Institution in March, 1983. It has also toured in France and the Soviet Union, and appeared on the national televisions of Italy, Japan, and Sweden. Jazz historian Al Rose has called the LRJE "the most authentic band on the scene today." This is the second in a series of planned recordings by the Ensemble, the first being ALIVE AND WELL (SO 1029)…" From the liner notes of [r5049661]
