German musician and band leader, born 30 January 1889 in Landau in der Pfalz, Germany and died 2 April 1941 in Durban, South-Africa (according to other sources he died in July 1947 in Windhoek, South-West Africa - today Namibia). Following the fad of the times, Ludwig Rüth adopted the alias Lewis Ruth around 1925 and also named his various groups after this alias. He switched back to his real name in 1934, after the Nazis came into power in Germany in 1933. Additionally, also his groups were renamed by using his real name alias.
