Kasper Winding

Danish composer and multi-instrumentalist, born 21 June 1956 in Copenhagen. Gained reputation as a musical wonderkid thanks to his brilliant drumming skills when he was in his early teens. Started out as professional drummer around 1970, playing at a young age with many well-known jazz and pop artists including Palle Mikkelborg, Sanne Salomonsen, Svend Asmussen, Toots Thielemans and Tyggegummibanden. At the age of 16 he co-founded the Danish latin/funk fusion group Buki Yamaz with his half-brother Aske Bentzon.


Throughout his career, Winding has composed and recorded music with musicians and filmmakers from all over the world. He has worked with such different artists as [a=Phillip Glass], The Rolling Stones, Barry White, Nina Hagen, Per Nørgård, [a=Abba], Terry Riley, Frank Zappa, Murray Head and Det Kongelige Kapel. He was drummer in iconic Danish pop band Shu-Bi-Dua from 1981 and played on their albums [r=1564107], [r=1265129] and [r=870515]. He has released numerous solo albums, and had a massive single hit in Denmark in 1987 with [r=1671960], a duo with Lars Muhl for a TV-series,

Winding is also a renowned producer. He produced albums for many Danish artists like C. V. Jørgensen, Kenneth Knudsen, Lis Sørensen, Stig Kreutzfeldt, tv-2, Maya Albana, Gangway, Caroline Henderson, Aud Wilken and his half-sister Alberte Winding among others.

Winding is the son of author and radio and television producer Thomas Winding and cinematographer Vibeke Winding. He is the father of [a=Oliver Winding] with first wife Pia Tryde, Julian Winding with second wife Brigitte Nielsen, as well as [a=Pablo Winding] and Polly Winding with third wife Simone Bendix. He is the half-brother of filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn.
