Josef Albers (March 19, 1888, Bottrop, Germany – March 25, 1976, New Haven, USA) was a German-born American artist world-renowned as a teacher of art and as a colour theorist. In the 1950s, Albers taught young painter/designer [a=Charles E. Murphy] color theory and painting at Yale School of Art and Architecture. Murphy later commissioned artwork from Albers for various cover designs Murphy art directed for the [l=Command] Records label.
