Jose L Garcia (b. 1953) is an American microtonal composer, musician, and programmer. In the 1970s and 80s, Garcia played across numerous genres and collaborated with a wide range of collectives, from [a=Dick Whitsell]'s jazz band to world music ensembles performing traditional Japanese gagaku and West-African music. Currently, he's mainly composing ambient computer music. Garcia has been closely associated with [a=Erv Wilson], microtonal theorist and musicologist. In 1977, he co-founded a microtonal post-punk band, [a=Cipher (8)], with [a=Marsha Mann], re-fretting all guitars and bass to one of Wilson's seven-limit 22-tone scales. In 2018, Jose Garcia re-released Cipher's self-titled debut LP with additional tracks on iTunes and SoundCloud.
