Johnny Powers (May 25, 1938 - January 16th, 2023 ). He was born John Leon Joseph Pavlik in Detroit, Michigan, and was a writer, producer, and Musician known for rockabilly. Powers (as Pavlik) began his professional career in 1953 at age 15, when he joined a local Detroit country band known as Jimmy Williams and the Drifters. Until 1955, Powers performed and recorded under his birth name but, following a studio session for Fortune Records in Detroit, co-owner Devora Brown – seeing Pavlik eating a PowerHouse candy bar – gave him the stage name of Johnny Powers. 1957 Powers first major recording on the Fox Records label entitled “Long Blond Hair”.George Braxton’s distribution network seemed much the same as Jack Brown’s at Fortune Records, faded into obscurity a few months after its release In 1960, now at Motown, Powers worked with producers and songwriters Eddie Holland, Marvin Gaye and Clarence Paul, perfecting his abilities that flourished at Sound Incorporated and Sidra / Drew Records, the Detroit studios and record companies he co-owned in the 1960s and '70s. He also oversaw the label's recording-pressing and distribution operations. Powers also had a number of publishing companies, inc Powerhouse Music, enterprise, Jet-Eye Music, Inc. SIDRA (18292 Wyoming Ave) owners Raymond Jackson & Joe Brown sold Sidra to John Powers & Joe Casey, (father of Robyn Casey of Ronnie + Robyn), in 67 at about the same time Dale Warren moved to Sidra from D Town Powers went on to form Powerhouse Records at 7405 Crissman, Utica, plus address' in Warren and Detroit. Powers also had connections to the Lake label, Sound Label and Sound Inc on highway 94, Northeast of Detroit, with his brothers Danny and Larry Lick (a shortened version of their original name, Pavlick).
