American jazz alto saxophonist and composer, born January 3, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, died July 12, 1993 in New York City, New York. Jenkins played with Charles Mingus, Jackie McLean, Paul Quinichette, Clifford Jordan, Donald Byrd, Wilbur Ware, Teddy Charles, Hank Mobley, Sahib Shihab and others. By 1965 he had ceased to work as a musician.
