Janne Önnerud

Swedish singer, born June 15, 1948 in Enskede, Stockholm. He started his career as a drummer in the pop group Hounds during the 1960s. He also appeared as a singer on some songs, including The Lion Sleeps Tonight, which became Hound's biggest hit on the Top Ten chart. His solo career started in 1968 when he toured with Telstarsparaden, a package show that also featured Tommy Körberg, Eleanor Bodel and Björn Skifs. He had a record success with Kärlekens hus in 1969, which ended up on the Svensktoppen. In 1970 he started the dance band Janne Önnerud & gänget, which later changed its name to Janne Önnerud & Co. During the 1970s, these managed to score two big hits on the Svensktoppen, Are you my darling than in 1977 and Tommy in 1979. He participated in the Swedish Melodifestivalen in 1984 with the melody Nu är jag tillbaks igen, which finished in joint sixth place. For three seasons during the 1980s, Janne Önnerud was the host for Svensktoppen.
