James "Al" Hendrix (June 10, 1919—Apr 17, 2002) was Jimi Hendrix's father. He was born and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and relocated to Seattle in 1940 with his first wife, where they had a son, Johnny Allen, later renamed James Marshall Hendrix, two years later. In 1993, Al Hendrix engaged in litigation against MCA Records to regain legal ownership and control over his son's music. As a result of the settlement, Al established Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. in '95, which handled most of Hendrix's posthumous releases since then.
