Died December 24, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
He was married to Mary Jane Gumm (1941-1963) (Judy Garland's sister).
Brother of jazz trumpeters Dick Cathcart and Jimmy Cathcart.
Member of the Comedian Harmonists (American Group) in 1948 and 1949. Worked as musical director for Judy Garland in the 1950s. He was a sideman in Artie Shaw's Orchestra and later worked in Las Vegas casinos including being musical director for the Riviera.
