Ingvar Lidholm

Swedish composer, born 24 February 1921, Jönköping, Sweden, died 17 October 2017, Rönninge, Salem, Sweden. Lidholm was elected as a member of Föreningen svenska tonsättare in 1946 and was named an honorary doctorate at Örebro University in 2002. Lidholm studied violin and conducting at the Royal Academy of Music for Axel Runnqvist and Tor Mann respectively 1940–1945, composition for Natanael Berg (privately) and Hilding Rosenberg 1943–1945. He worked 1943–1947 as a violist in the Royal Court Chapel and then got a job as city chapel master in Örebro. As such, he led the orchestra association, the forerunner of today's Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Lidholm subsequently became head of chamber music at Swedish Radio 1956–1965, professor of composition at the Royal Academy of Music 1965–1975 and head of planning at SR's music department in 1975. Lidholm was elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Music in 1960 and was its vice president 1963–1969.
