Impatient Outpatient was the one-off, lo-fi psychedelic hip-hop project of Pete Bunke that would later become Monomate. Impatient Outpatient was created with two principal interests in mind: to produce a hip-hop album that used more experimental backing tracks than what is the norm, and to emulate the Game Boy Advance's inherent bitcrushing/downsampling. Although he'd intended to find rappers to perform prewritten verses, this never panned out, so the album was released as an instrumental.
