Idil Biret

About

Turkish concert pianist, born November 21, 1941 in Ankara, Turkey.

She began playing the piano at the age of three and studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Nadia Boulanger, graduating at the age of fifteen with three first prizes.

She has also been a student of Alfred Cortot and Wilhelm Kempff and started her solo career as a concert pianist at the age of sixteen. She has appeared with many leading orchestras with a lot of well-known conductors.

Among other things, she has recorded over 60 discs with Naxos, including the first recording of Franz Liszt's transcriptions of all Beethoven's symphonies as well as the complete works of Johannes Brahms and Frédéric Chopin for solo piano.
