American lyricist (born June 2, 1887 in Waterbury, Connecticut - died May 1, 1941 in New York City). Johnson began his career before World War I as a pianist in Boston theaters. After serving with the US Navy, he moved to New York City and worked as a staff writer for several music publishing companies. He also became a charter member of ASCAP in 1917. Johnson wrote 159 popular songs. One of his biggest hits was "I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream".
