薬師丸ひろ子 (Yakushimaru Hiroko) Japanese singer and actress, born 9 June 1964. She debuted as an actress in 1978 and rose to prominence in 1981 with her lead role in the film Sailor Suit and Machine Gun (セーラー服と機関銃), which she also performed the theme song for; the success of both the film and the song helped to spark her career in music. She remained popular as a teen idol throughout the 1980s, releasing 14 albums during that decade alone and appearing in further film roles. She has mostly retreated from releasing new music in recent years, but currently remains active as a film & television actress.
