    Hart Valley Drifters was an American folk music band active in the early 1960s. The band included Jerry Garcia (who in 1965 co-founded The Grateful Dead), Robert Hunter (who wrote the lyrics to many of The Grateful Dead songs), and David Nelson (who together with John Dawson and Garcia, co-founded the country rock band New Riders Of The Purple Sage).
