Harry Chatmon

Blues singer and pianist, who recorded for Bluebird in New Orleans, Louisiana, in January and August 1935, and for Vocalion in Jackson, Mississippi, in October the same year. Born probably Bolton, Miss. Member of the large Chatmon clan. Brother Sam Chatmon: "We started out from our parents - it's just a gift we had in the family. Three or four of us took a few music lessons, but the rest of us grew with it just by ear". They mostly played in Central Mississippi and the Delta; some of them became known as the Mississippi Sheiks. Harry was still living near Jackson, Miss., in 1960 (from "Deep South Piano" by Karl Gert zur Heide)
