Gut

Allan "Gut" Terk (August 1, 1939 - January 18, 2018) was a legendary outlaw biker and artist who rode for the Hell Bent For Glory MC, before it became the North Sacramento chapter of the Hell's Angels. He then transferred to the Berdoo chapter in 1962. Around 1964, he settled in the Bay Area and opened a shop called Joynt Ventures. He met writer Ken Kesey and was associated with the Merry Pranksters - helping paint their famous International Harvester school bus nicknamed "Furthur". He appears in two notable books, Hunter S. Thompson's Hell's Angels (1967), and Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test (1968). He designed the diplomas that were awarded to people participating in the Prankster's Acid Tests. He worked as graphic designer and artistic director for bands like Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and The Holding Company, Hot Tuna, as well as The Grateful Dead and Blue Cheer, the later of which he was a founding member before becoming their manager. He also built a 1964 Harley Davidson panhead motorcycle for Jimi Hendrix, which appears on the cover of 1997 compilation South Saturn Delta. Gut disappeared during most of the 70s and 80s, fighting an opiate addiction before cleaning up and obtaining a job on a ranch in 1992. In 2016, he designed the cover of Halfway To Berdoo, a book of photographs taken by outlaw biker history key figure Mother Ruthe between 1961 and 1965. He died of organ failure following a battle with cancer on January 18, 2018, in his home outside of Reno.
