Gospel Gangstaz is a West Coast Christian hip hop group from Los Angeles, Cailfornia founded in 1993. Their name comes from the fact that the original group members were former members of the notorious Crips and Bloods gangs. The group's founder, Mr. Solo, stated he became a Christian after he almost died in a gang-related shooting. The group's debut [i]Gang Affiliated[/i] was released in 1994. Their 1999 release [i]I Can See Clearly Now[/i] received a Grammy nomination in the Best Rock Gospel Album category and Dove Award nominations for Best Rap/Hip Hop/Dance Album and for Rap/Hip Hop/Dance Recorded Song of the Year for track "I'll Be Good". [i]The Exodus[/i] was nominated for the Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year Dove Award. Solo died on May 22, 2020 of undisclosed causes. According to a Rapzilla article, the group had been in the studio and was nearing completion of an album.
