American comedian, singer, and actor.
Born: June 8, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois.
Died: September 30, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He delighted audiences for four decades with impressions ranging from John Wayne to Ella Fitzgerald; he began his career in Chicago and moved to Las Vegas with dancer Norma Miller in 1952 as part of the Count Basie show, one of the first black acts to play Vegas; as his act caught on, he headlined solo shows at Caesars Palace and other spots on the Strip and often appeared on TV with Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson and Mike Douglas in the 1960s and '70s.
