Irish singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born Gabriel Corcoran on 18 September 1948 in Dublin. Instruments played include concertina, dulcimer, autoharp, and bodhran.
Went to England in 1969 with her then-husband Terry Woods, where they co-founded Steeleye Span. The group recorded & released Hark! The Village Wait in 1970, after which Gay & Terry left the band, who continued without them. Gay & Terry then formed The Woods Band in 1970, and after that band dissolved in 1971 briefly toured as members of [a=Dr. Strangely Strange]. They reverted to working as The Woods Band and finally as Gay & Terry Woods until 1980, when the couple split up. Gay went on to form Auto Da Fé with [a=Trevor Knight] in 1980, splitting up in 1989. In 1994 she rejoined Steeleye Span, recording another three more albums and touring with them before leaving.
