Tokyo-based Punk/Hardcore group G.I.S.M. was founded in 1981. After more than ten years of (mostly) inactivity following Randy Uchida's death in 2001, G.I.S.M. performed at the 2016 Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. They had never performed outside of Japan before. On August 24, 2023, frontman and singer Sakevi Yokoyama passed away. There are several applications for the acronym G.I.S.M., such as: Guerilla Incendiary Sabotage Mutineer, God In the Schizoid Mind, Gay Individual Social Mean, Gnostic Idiosyncracy Sonic Militant, etc.
