Fruko

About

Colombian composer, producer, performer and bandleader. Born in Medellín on 7 July 1951).

He joined Los Corraleros de Majagual in 1965, with whom he recorded for seven years. Initially known as Joselito he began to be called Fruko because of his resemblance to a character in a canned food advertisement that said: "La salsa de tomate Fruco (original name of the product)... el secreto del sabor" (Fruco tomato sauce... the secret of flavour). In the 1970's he formed Fruko y sus Tesos ("teso" is a synonym of "tieso", implying they were "the tough guys of the neighbourhood").
