    American comedian, actor, author, producer & musician, born December 4, 1966 in Valley Stream, New York (USA). He is of German, Japanese, and Venezuelan descent. He played drums for Trenchmouth in 1988, Blue Man Group and Wandering Lucy in the 1990s, and in 1997 he toured with Those Bastard Souls featuring Steven Drozd. In 1998, he made a short film called Fred Armisen's Guide To Music And South By Southwest. He then tried stand-up comedy. Between 2002 and 2013 he was part of the cast of Saturday Night Live. Between 2010 and 2018 he created the TV show Portlandia together with Carrie Brownstein; the duo also performs as ThunderAnt. In 2015 he launched the mockumentary series Documentary Now! for IFC, in collaboration with Bill Hader and Seth Meyers. For the latter's Late Night With TV show, Armisen has been music director and sometimes bandleader and drummer since 2014. He has also directed music videos for other bands or appeared in them.
