Syrian musical master of the oud, composer, singer and actor. He was born on October 19 1910 in Swaida, Syria and died on December 26 1974 in Beirut, Lebanon. He is often regarded as the greatest oud player of all time. Although originally from Syria, he spent most of his time in Egypt. The famous Syrian singer and actress Asmahan was his sister.
