Formed in 1982 by Paul Neville and Ben Green as O.P.D. (Officially Pronounced Dead). In 1983 the band renamed to Fall Of Because, and in 1984 Justin Broadrick joined as the band's drummer. They developed in parallel with Napalm Death, for whom a young Justin also played and often performed live with them (Napalm Death members Mick Harris and [a=Nik Bullen] guested on FoB's track 'Fight Show'). Over the next four years, the trio wrote a lot of material that became the base of much early Godflesh. The band disintegrated in 1987 when Justin left Napalm Death to play drums for Head Of David, but got back together soon after and changed their name to Godflesh.
The band took it's name from a Killing Joke song (The Fall Of Because).
