Ethereal Beauty was an American shoegaze/post-rock/ambient band based in Calexico, California. Founded by Jordan Leal (who simultaneously played in the atmospheric black metal band Desolation), the project came about in late April 2008 and was principally influenced by Vision Éternel, Parabstruse, Alcest, and Amesoeurs; the band's name was influenced by Vision Éternel, which described its genre as "Ethereal" and its first written song was "Love Within Beauty", hence Ethereal Beauty. In the spring of 2008, Leal recorded two demo songs and quickly got in touch with Vision Éternel to discuss a split EP.

The band was signed to Vision Éternel's record label, Abridged Pause Recordings, in September 2008, and the split 7" EP was officially announced. In 2009, the two demo songs were used on the Various Artists compilation "The World Comes To An End In The End Of A Journey" by Abridged Pause Recordings. Following this release, Jordan worked on material due to be released on the split, but after writing three songs, his songwriting evolved and he started using the moniker Bonfires For Nobody. The debut album by Bonfires for Nobody, originally scheduled for release through Abridged Pause Recordings, features the three last songs written as Ethereal Beauty, as well as seven songs composed after the name change.
