The Ensemble Intercontemporain (EIC) is based in Paris, France. It was founded in 1976 by Pierre Boulez and Jean Maheu with the support of Michel Guy (who was Minister of Culture at the time), and the collaboration of Nicholas Snowman with the project to promote and disseminate contemporary music. This project is carried out in conjunction with a programme of public information and the training of young instrumentalists. Since its inception, the EIC has given the premières of more than 200 contemporary works.

8 February 2022, it was announced that they were awarded the Swedish Polar Music Prize, a prize that Pierre Boulez had received in 1996.
