Elymar Santos (Rio de Janeiro, 11 October 1952) is a Brazilian singer of MPB. Baptized with the name of Elimar, was born in Morro do Alemao, home to one of the most violent slums of Rio de Janeiro, a stronghold of drug traffickers. Also lived in São Gonçalo do Sapucaí, Minas Gerais, the hometown of his mother. Replaced the 'i' in her name by 'y' when he started singing in pubs and steakhouses in adolescence. It has become fairly well known by winning contests in freshman programs Chacrinha and Flávio Cavalcanti. Before purchasing their own style, imitated Cauby Peixoto, his idol. Elymar achieved success in a daring bid: sold everything he had to do a show in the biggest venue of Rio, Canecão in 1985. Filled the house and launched his career. In 1986/1987, participated in São Paulo, the rock opera "Evita", where she portrayed Che Guevara, winning the award for best actor. In 94 following the death of Ayrton Senna wrote the song in its honor Warriors Do not Die Never. Between 1991 and 2000 he was honored four times by samba schools. In 1991, the school was the subject In the nick of time, the access group of Rio, with the theme "Elymar: the dream that turned the song." In 1998 he was honored at the Empire da Tijuca, with "Elymar overpopulating." In 1999, the Camisa Verde e Branco launched the theme "straddling the white and green heart: Elymar more popular", the first school of the state to honor him. In 2000 he was included as one of the highlights of the history of the 500 years of Brazil, São Paulo storyline from another school, the Academic of Tucuruvi. In the '90s approached Rosinha Matheus, his longtime fan who never missed any of his shows in Campos. When Rosie won a radio program in a city, Elymar led to an interview that took place in a climate of emotion. Later, candidate for governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Elymar invited to record their jingle campaign, which the singer did, without charging fee.
