    Born: December 18, 1860, New York City, New York Died: January 23, 1908, New York City, New York Edward MacDowell was an American pianist and composer, widely known in Europe where he lived during most of the 1880's. He composed piano sonatas as well as other shorter pieces. One of his more popular miniature tone pictures is the 1896 piece "To A Wild Rose" from the [i]Woodland Sketches[/i].
