English-born American pianist and band leader (born June 22, 1889 in London, England – died October 25, 1963 in Lower Merion, Montgomery, Pennsylvania, USA).
Born in London of Irish parents, Lee immigrated to the United States in 1916 and settled in Philadelphia. He was naturalized in 1922. Lee sold insurance as his day job, but also was active in Philadelphia's Irish music scene. In 1918, he founded the local Irish Musicians' Union. In addition, he led The Four Provinces Orchestra, the first of many great Philadelphia Irish dance hall bands. Between 1926 and 1930, it cut more than two dozen sides for Victor and Victor, on which Lee plays the piano.
With singer [a=James J. Mullan], Lee wrote the 1929 hit "I Don't Work For A Living".
