Earthen Vessel

Hard psychedelic Christian rock group from East Lansing, Michigan, active in the early '70s. The early 70s Jesus Rock movement inspired some surprisingly heavy rock bands in America, including the highly collectable likes of Fraction, Azitis and Agape. Earthen Vessel were another example of this curious phenomenon. The band initially formed in the winter of 1970 as The Rare Ones, but quickly they renamed Earthen Vessel, a Biblical reference. Playing regularly at a local coffee-house, they began to write their own material in preparation for recording an album. "Hard Rock / Everlasting Life" was eventually recorded at Monument Studios in Nashville on 10th November 1971, by a line-up of Sharon Keel (lead vocals, keyboards, percussion), Ken Fitch (lead vocals, keyboards, percussion), Dave Caudill (guitars, blues harp), John Sprunger (bass, trumpet) and Ed Johnson (drums). Unfortunately the album didn't do as well as the band expected, and they disbanded in the summer of 1972.
